The gold needle is a skin method that brings microneedling and radiofrequency energy together in a single treatment. Many fine needles at the tip of the handpiece descend to a preset depth in the skin, and radiofrequency energy is delivered from the needle tips. In this way the heat reaches the intended layer directly, without having to pass through the skin surface. The aim is to create a measured repair stimulus in the layer where collagen is produced.
Why the method works this way
Classic microneedling provides only a mechanical stimulus. Radiofrequency delivered from the surface alone loses part of its energy before it reaches depth. The gold needle combines the two: the needles carry the energy, and the radiofrequency creates small points of heat exactly where the needle tips sit. Because the surface is relatively spared, recovery tends to stay short and the treatment can be considered across a wider range of skin types.

Who it suits, and where care is needed
It is considered for people who want to support skin texture and firmness and are looking for an option with short recovery. Because the surface is relatively spared, it can be planned more comfortably on darker skin tones, though the parameters still need to be individualised. Active acne infection or inflamed lesions in the area, open wounds, active herpes, pregnancy and breastfeeding, bleeding disorders, metal implants or devices such as a pacemaker in the area, and a tendency to keloid scarring are each reviewed separately. Some acne medications taken recently can change the timing of treatment. Suitability is decided by a medical examination.
How the session proceeds
After the skin is cleansed, a topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the area and left to take effect. During that time your skin type, the target areas and the needle depth are reviewed again; because skin thickness differs across the forehead, cheeks, jawline and neck, depth is set separately for each region. Once the cream is removed, the handpiece is placed perpendicular to the skin and worked across the area section by section. Each placement brings a brief sensation of pressure and warmth. When the treatment is finished a soothing product is applied, along with cooling if needed.
When effects appear and how they develop
Straight after the treatment the skin can feel temporarily tighter and fuller, but this early effect does not reflect the actual outcome. The collagen response develops over weeks, so changes in texture quality are usually noticed gradually. For this reason the gold needle is planned not as a one off but as a series of sessions with set intervals between them. The number of sessions depends on the condition of the skin and the goal. Results vary from person to person, and how long they last is tied to skincare, sun protection and lifestyle habits.
Aftercare
Redness and a mild feeling of heat are expected on the first day and usually settle within one to three days. The needle contact points can remain visible as small dots for a few days. During this period generous moisturising, cleansing with non irritating products and a high factor sunscreen are advised. Hot showers, saunas, swimming pools and intense exercise are postponed for a short while. When to return to retinol, acid based products and peels is decided individually. Points that are often confused
Despite the name, the gold needle is not a gold treatment; the name stuck because the needles are gold coated. Another frequent mix up is assuming it is the same as classic microneedling or needle free radiofrequency, when all three differ in depth and mechanism.
