Youth Boosters.

Youth booster is the common name for injectable treatments that deliver hydrating and nourishing ingredients into the skin in small doses, with the aim of supporting its capacity to hold moisture and its overall vitality. The goal is not to change facial contours or add volume; it is to support the building blocks the skin already has and help the tissue look better rested. At his clinic in Nişantaşı, Dr. Levent Ünal plans the options under this heading around skin type, hydration level, daily habits and what each person actually wants.

The complaints it is considered for

The skin holds less water as the years pass. Add sun exposure, smoking, irregular sleep, a demanding schedule and seasonal changes, and the skin dries out, stops reflecting light the way it used to, and fine surface lines become easier to notice. Youth boosters usually come up in conversation around situations like these:

  • Dryness and a tight feeling that lasts through the day
  • A dull, tired looking complexion
  • Fine surface lines and skin that looks thin, almost papery
  • Make up that does not sit well or does not last
  • Skin on the neck, decollete and back of the hands that looks more neglected than the face

Areas that can be assessed

The face is the most commonly treated area. Beyond that, the eye area, neck, decollete, back of the hands and the inner arms can also be considered. Choosing the area is not arbitrary. The ingredient and the depth of application are planned separately for each region, taking into account skin thickness, sensitivity and what that area actually needs. The skin around the eyes, for example, is noticeably thinner than the rest of the face and calls for a more restrained approach. The back of the hands, in the same way, sees sun all day but is often left out of a skincare routine.

Who it may suit

It is considered for people who do not describe marked sagging and whose main concerns are dryness, dullness and a tired appearance. Age alone is not the deciding factor. Skin that needs hydration support in the late twenties and well protected skin in the forties can both be discussed under this heading. Closer assessment is needed during pregnancy and breastfeeding, when there is an active skin infection, an eczema flare or an unhealed wound in the area, in bleeding and clotting disorders, in chronic conditions that are not under control, and where there is known hypersensitivity to the ingredients used. Suitability is decided by a medical examination.

How a session goes

The visit begins with a close look at the skin and a conversation about your habits. Your daily skincare routine, how much water you drink, your relationship with the sun and any ongoing treatments all matter at this stage. The areas to be treated are then agreed and the skin is cleansed. A topical numbing cream can be applied where it is felt necessary. The treatment itself is carried out with fine needles, in small doses into the superficial layer of the skin. The procedure is done in an outpatient setting and most people return to their day straight afterwards. Small bumps, mild redness or tenderness to the touch may appear right after the session. These are expected, temporary changes.

Onset and duration of the effect

Youth boosters should not be thought of as one off treatments. The change in the skin's moisture balance is gradual, and a course of sessions at set intervals is usually recommended. How long the effect lasts differs with skin type, age, sun exposure, smoking and daily skincare habits. For that reason no fixed duration or outcome is promised. Results vary from person to person, and the session plan is reviewed again at follow up visits.

Aftercare and what to watch for

  • Avoid make up on the area and rubbing the skin for the first few hours.
  • Stay away from heat on the first day: hamam, sauna, tanning beds and intense exercise.
  • Keep up sun protection. It is the simplest step that supports what the treatment is trying to do.
  • Pause harsh exfoliants and strong acid based products for a few days.
  • Keep drinking water and moisturising regularly.
  • Call the clinic if you notice unexpected swelling, redness that does not settle or pain.

Points that are often confused

The Turkish word for booster translates literally as vaccine, but nothing here relates to immunisation; it simply describes a supportive treatment given into the skin. A youth booster is also not the same as a filler. A filler addresses volume loss and supports the tissue in a specific area, whereas a youth booster is concerned with the skin's moisture balance and surface quality and does not set out to change facial contours. It differs from botulinum toxin too: that targets lines caused by expression, while a youth booster has nothing to do with muscle movement. It shares its logic with mesotherapy, and the name often changes with the ingredient used. Which heading is meaningful for your skin is decided by a medical assessment and a plan built for you, not by the name on the product.
