Mesotherapy.

Mesotherapy is the shared name for treatments in which the components the skin or scalp needs are delivered into the tissue in small doses, across many points. What sets it apart from oral supplements or products applied to the surface is that the blend reaches the targeted layer directly. At his clinic in Nişantaşı, İstanbul, Dr. Levent Ünal plans mesotherapy for areas such as the face, neck, decolletage, under eye, hands and scalp according to what the examination shows.

What mesotherapy addresses

Over the years the skin holds less water, its supporting tissue weakens and the surface starts to look duller. Sun, smoking, poor sleep, an unbalanced diet and seasonal changes can speed this up. The aim of mesotherapy is to support the skin from the layer where it needs help, not only from the outside. On the scalp, the goal is to nourish the tissue around the roots and to contribute to the shedding process within a physician led plan. These treatments do not add volume and do not affect muscle movement; they are about tissue quality.

What this category covers

  • Face mesotherapy: for dullness, dryness and a general loss of vitality.
  • Neck mesotherapy: for neck skin, which is thinner and more delicate than the face.
  • Decolletage mesotherapy: for the upper chest, an area often exposed to the sun.
  • Under eye mesotherapy: a light blend for one of the thinnest areas of skin on the body.
  • Hand mesotherapy: for the back of the hands, exposed to water, detergents and sun all day.
  • Hair mesotherapy: for a scalp showing shedding or a drop in density.
  • PRP: plasma prepared from the person's own blood, applied to the skin or scalp.
  • Underarm brightening: for tone darkening linked to friction, shaving and sweating.

How the blend and the plan are decided

Every area differs in skin thickness, blood supply and what it actually needs. The blend used, the depth of application, the number of injection points and the interval between sessions therefore change from area to area. During the visit, skin type, the current complaint, the products and medicines in use and the medical history are reviewed together. A personal session plan follows from that. There is no single protocol that fits everyone.

Who it suits

It is considered for people who need nourishing support in the skin or scalp, who have realistic expectations and whose general health allows it. Pregnancy and breastfeeding, an active skin infection in the treatment area, a bleeding disorder or the use of blood thinners, a known allergy to the blend, and poorly controlled systemic conditions are all points that need closer attention. Deciding on suitability requires a medical assessment.

How a session goes

Treatments are carried out in an outpatient setting. The area is cleaned, a topical anaesthetic cream is applied and allowed to work if needed, and the blend is then distributed with fine needles. The procedure is usually short and most people return to their day straight afterwards. Short lived redness or small raised points can appear in the area and generally settle on their own.

Onset and duration of the effect

With mesotherapy the effect does not appear after a single session; it builds gradually as the sessions progress. That is why a course repeated at set intervals is usually advised, often followed by maintenance sessions spaced further apart. How long the appearance lasts depends on skin type, age, sun protection and daily skincare habits. Results vary from person to person.

Points that are often confused

Mesotherapy and filler are not the same thing: filler adds volume, while mesotherapy supports tissue quality. Mesotherapy is also often confused with botulinum toxin, which addresses lines caused by muscle movement; mesotherapy has no such effect. Nor does it replace a daily routine. Sun protection, suitable cleansing and a regular moisturising habit remain an inseparable part of the process.
