Regional slimming and cellulite brings together treatments for limited fat deposits that resist diet and exercise, and for the orange peel look on the skin surface. The two complaints often appear together, but they come from different places: one is about fat volume, the other about the connective tissue and circulation beneath the skin. At his clinic in Nişantaşı, Istanbul, Dr. Levent Ünal examines these areas by hand and by eye to work out which category a complaint really belongs to.
Where the body stores fat differs from person to person. Genetics, hormonal balance and a metabolism that shifts with age largely decide which areas fill out first. That is why some areas stay disproportionately full even after weight loss. These treatments address exactly that picture: fat that persists in one area while overall weight is stable.
These treatments are considered for people whose weight has largely settled, whose general health is suitable, and who are bothered by the appearance of one specific area. The plan changes, or treatment is postponed, for people with significant excess weight, those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and those with bleeding disorders, uncontrolled chronic illness or an active skin infection in the treatment area. Only a medical assessment can make that distinction.
At the first visit the area is examined by hand, and the skin's capacity to retract along with the thickness of the fat layer are assessed. Then we discuss which treatment fits, how many sessions to plan and how far apart they should sit. When several complaints coexist, treatments are sequenced rather than done all at once.
None of these treatments is a slimming method and none aims to change the number on the scale. The goal is to reduce volume or surface irregularity in a limited area so that clothes sit more comfortably and the contour looks smoother. Change appears gradually across spaced sessions rather than after one visit. Results vary from person to person, and no outcome is promised in advance.
The same person can have both a limited fat deposit and surface irregularity. When that happens, treatments are not stacked into a single session. We first work out which complaint bothers you more, build the programme from there, and move to the next stage once the area has had time to settle. At review visits the plan is updated as the response becomes visible. This approach protects safety and also keeps the assessment meaningful, because when two treatments are done at once it becomes hard to tell how much each one contributed.
What happens at the clinic is only part of the process. Drinking plenty of water, avoiding long stretches of sitting still, going easy on salt and walking regularly all support circulation and help with fluid retention. Smoking and heavy alcohol intake can slow tissue recovery. None of this replaces the treatment; it simply makes the response easier to judge. Telling us about the medications you take, particularly blood thinners, and about any supplements also has a direct bearing on planning.
Before deciding which treatment suits you, we suggest an assessment visit at the clinic in Nişantaşı.
