Nose filler is a non surgical option that aims to camouflage small dips or irregularities on the nasal bridge and, in some cases, to give the tip a little support. Its scope is limited and it does not replace surgery. It does not make the nose smaller, it does not improve breathing and it does not change bone or cartilage. All it does is add a fine contour to the existing profile.
When it is considered
- Camouflaging a small dip or indentation on the bridge
- Supporting the area above and below a small hump so the profile reads as straighter
- Giving limited support to the tip in some cases
- Softening small irregularities left after previous nasal surgery, if the doctor considers it appropriate
Who it suits, and who it does not
It can be considered for people with a limited irregularity on the bridge, realistic expectations and no plan for surgery. It is not suitable for anyone who wants a smaller nose, or who has a marked deviation or a breathing problem; in those cases a surgical assessment is the right route. The nose is one of the most vascularly demanding regions of the face. In people who have had rhinoplasty the tissue planes may be altered, so assessment is even more careful. It is not performed during pregnancy and breastfeeding, with an active infection in the area, or in bleeding disorders. Suitability must be determined by a medical examination.
How the session proceeds
The nose is examined from the front and in profile, your expectations are discussed openly and the limits of what this treatment can and cannot do are explained plainly. Cases that need surgery are separated out at this stage. If the treatment is appropriate, the skin is cleaned, the points are marked carefully and a topical anaesthetic can be applied for comfort. A small amount of filler is placed slowly at the planned points with careful technique. The colour of the area and what the patient feels are monitored continuously during the application. It is completed in an outpatient setting.
Onset and duration of the effect
The change in contour is visible right after the application. Duration depends on the product, the amount and the individual and is usually described in months. Because the amounts used in the nose are small, the timeframe can differ noticeably between people. Results vary from person to person.
Aftercare
- Avoid glasses and sunglasses, or anything that presses on the nose, in the first days.
- Do not touch, rub or try to reshape the area yourself.
- Stay away from saunas, steam rooms and intense exercise for a few days.
- It is sensible to skip heavy makeup on the day of the treatment.
- If you notice blanching, increasing pain, a colour change or any change in vision, contact the clinic without delay. This warning matters especially in this region.
Points that are often confused
The most common misconception is that this treatment makes the nose smaller. Filler adds volume, it does not remove it; what changes is the play of light and shadow along the profile, giving the impression of a cleaner line. It is also not in competition with surgery. Where there is a significant shape concern, a surgical assessment is recommended rather than spending time on filler. This treatment only makes sense when its scope and its limits are fully understood by the patient.
Things to weigh before deciding
- Are you after a limited contour adjustment, or a real change in the shape of your nose? The latter is outside the scope of this treatment.
- Do you have any breathing complaint? If so, that should be assessed first.
- Have you had rhinoplasty before? This information changes the plan fundamentally.
- Are you considering surgery in the future? If so, the timing needs to be discussed with your doctor.
These points are addressed openly at the visit. Where the treatment is not appropriate, it is not recommended and the reason is explained to you.
Useful things to know before the visit
Please share in detail the medications you take, especially blood thinning drugs and supplements, any known allergies and every procedure your nose has had. If you have an important event coming up, arranging the treatment at least a week beforehand makes for a more comfortable process.
