PDRN/PN is a skin revitalisation treatment built around molecules called polynucleotides, purified chains derived from DNA building blocks. The aim is not to add volume to an area. The aim is to support the skin's own repair, moisture retention and renewal processes. That places PDRN/PN in a different position from fillers and volumising collagen stimulators, and it is often planned as a complement to them.
What it addresses
For some people the real complaint is not lost volume. The skin looks dull, feels dry through the day, fine lines become more visible and the face never quite looks rested. Poor sleep, smoking, heavy sun exposure and stress all speed that picture up. PDRN/PN is considered here to support the baseline quality of the skin. The goal is not to change the shape of the face but to move the skin itself toward a more hydrated, livelier and better balanced state.
Areas where it is considered
- General dullness and dryness across the face
- Thin skin and a tired look under the eyes
- Fine lines around the mouth
- Thinner skin areas such as the neck and décolletage
- The back of the hands
Planning is more careful in thin, delicate areas such as under the eyes, where the right technique and depth directly affect comfort.
Who it suits and who needs closer assessment
It is considered for people noticing dullness, dryness, fine lines and a generally tired appearance. Where volume loss is pronounced it may not be enough on its own. Sessions are postponed if there is active acne infection, eczema or any skin infection in the treatment area. Pregnancy and breastfeeding, a history of bleeding disorders, the use of blood thinners and uncontrolled autoimmune conditions all call for closer assessment. Suitability is decided by a medical assessment.
How the session runs
The skin is examined closely first. Degree of dryness, pore structure, the distribution of lines and any accompanying problems are noted. The product, the number of sessions and their spacing are planned accordingly. On the day the skin is cleaned and a topical anaesthetic is applied if you wish. The product is then placed in small amounts at many points in the superficial layers with fine needles, or with a cannula where the area calls for it. The session is short. Small raised points and redness can appear straight after the application, which is expected and usually settles quickly.
Onset and duration of the effect
The change in skin quality is gradual. Some people describe a difference in how hydrated the skin feels after the first session, but the clearer difference appears as the series progresses. This is why the treatment is usually structured as a series of sessions spaced a few weeks apart. Unlike volumising products the effect is on tissue revitalisation, and it is not permanent. Because the skin's own cycle continues, repeat sessions can be planned at intervals. Results vary from person to person.
Aftercare
- Avoid make up and strong sun on the first day.
- Postpone saunas, steam rooms and heavy exercise on the day of the session.
- Do not rub the skin and keep away from harsh peels and brushes for a few days.
- Use a moisturiser and sun protection consistently.
- Small raised points, redness and occasionally tiny bruises can occur and usually settle quickly.
Contact the clinic if you notice swelling that persists, increasing pain or warmth in the area.
Points that are often confused
PDRN/PN is often assumed to be the same thing as mesotherapy or filler. Mesotherapy is a broad heading for a technique, while PDRN/PN works with a specific group of molecules. The difference from filler is clearer still: filler adds volume, polynucleotides do not and instead support the tissue's response. Another common expectation is a visible change from a single session, whereas here the result builds across the series. Polynucleotides also do not replace skincare. Without regular moisturising and sun protection, whatever is gained fades sooner.
