Under Eye Mesotherapy.

No. 1 Overview

Under Eye Mesotherapy.

Under eye mesotherapy applies light nourishing blends very superficially to the thin skin around the eyes. The skin here is among the thinnest on the body, has few oil glands and moves thousands of times a day. That is why tiredness, poor sleep and moisture loss are read here first. At his clinic in Nişantaşı, İstanbul, Dr. Levent Ünal plans this delicate area according to what the examination shows.

What under eye mesotherapy addresses

The aim is to support the moisture and tissue quality of the under eye skin. Fine dryness lines, a flat and tired appearance and skin that no longer reflects light belong under this heading. Under eye darkness, on the other hand, is not one single problem. In some people the vessels beneath the thin skin show through, in others there is an increase in pigment, and in others still the shadow cast by a hollow is what stands out. When the dominant mechanism changes, so does the approach; that distinction is made during the visit.

Which areas and situations it covers

  • Lower eyelid and the under eye triangle: dryness and dullness.
  • Crow's feet area: superficial fine lining.
  • The transition towards the temple: the general vitality of the skin texture.
  • A tired look linked to poor sleep and long hours on screens.

Who it suits

It is considered for people who notice dryness, dullness and a tired look under the eyes and who are looking for tissue support rather than a change in volume. Setting expectations correctly matters particularly in this area.

Situations that need closer assessment include pregnancy and breastfeeding, an active infection or cold sore around the eye, recurrent eyelid swelling and underlying kidney, thyroid or allergy related causes, a bleeding disorder or the use of blood thinning medication, a known allergy to the blend, and the early period after eye surgery. Where there are pronounced under eye bags or a deep hollow, expectations need to be discussed alongside other methods. Suitability is decided by a medical assessment.

How a session goes

  • Examination: what is actually causing the under eye appearance is assessed, and sleep patterns, allergy history and medical background are reviewed.
  • Preparation: make up is fully removed and, if needed, a topical anaesthetic cream is applied and left to work.
  • Choosing the blend: a lighter formulation suited to the area is selected.
  • Application: the blend is distributed very superficially through a small number of controlled points. The dose is set with care because the area is thin.
  • Review: the area is cooled, aftercare is explained and the session interval is planned.

Onset and duration of the effect

The effect is gradual and is assessed as the sessions progress. Under the eyes, the outcome is mostly read through changes in the moisture and tissue quality of the skin. Sleep, salt intake, allergies and sun protection all have a direct bearing on how this area looks. Results vary from person to person, and no outcome can be promised in advance.

Aftercare and what to watch for

  • Do not rub the area on the first day and avoid scratching your eyes.
  • Postpone heavy eye make up and any vigorous rubbing while removing make up.
  • Ask your physician before putting in contact lenses on the first day.
  • Sleeping with your head slightly raised can help reduce swelling.
  • Postpone sauna, steam rooms and intense exercise for a few days.

Because the area is delicate, mild redness, small raised points and occasionally small bruises can be seen afterwards. These generally settle in a short time.

Points that are often confused

Under eye mesotherapy and under eye filler are different procedures. Filler adds volume to a hollow, while mesotherapy supports the texture and moisture balance of the skin. If the main cause of the darkness is a shadow created by a hollow, the effect of mesotherapy on that shadow will be limited.

Another misconception is expecting a marked change from one session. The treatment is planned as a course. The under eye appearance is also not down to the skin alone; sleep, salt intake, allergies and smoking all feed directly into the picture.

No. 2 Process

The process step by step

From consultation to the session plan, every stage is planned in advance. An unhurried, transparent flow.

01

Consultation

Dullness, a tired look and dryness under the eyes are assessed. Whether the darkness is vascular, pigment related or caused by shadow is distinguished.

02

Blend and prep

Make up is fully removed, a light blend suited to the under eye is chosen, and a topical anaesthetic is applied if needed.

03

Application

The blend is applied very superficially and carefully under the eyes. Because of the thinness of the area, the dose is set with care.

04

Aftercare and session plan

Do not rub the area and avoid heavy make up on the first day. Mild temporary redness can occur. A plan of several sessions is usually advised.

No. 01 Does it remove under eye darkness?

Under eye darkness is not one single problem. In some people the vessels under the thin skin show through, in others there is increased pigment, and in others the shadow from a hollow dominates. The treatment supports the moisture and tissue quality of the skin, but where shadow is the main cause its effect is limited. That distinction is made during the visit and expectations are discussed accordingly.

No. 02 The area is delicate, is it painful?

The application is very superficial and controlled, and the needles used are fine. Most people describe a brief, light prick. Because the area is delicate, a topical anaesthetic cream can be applied beforehand if you prefer. The area is cooled afterwards for comfort.

No. 03 How many sessions are needed?

A few sessions repeated at set intervals are usually advised. Because the dose is kept low under the eyes, the process calls for patience. The number is decided during the visit according to the state of the skin and expectations. A marked change should not be expected from one session.

No. 04 Is there redness afterwards?

Because the area is thin and rich in vessels, mild redness, small raised points and occasionally small bruises can be seen afterwards. These generally settle in a short time. The chance of bruising is somewhat higher in people taking blood thinners. If anything unexpected develops, it is best to contact the clinic.

No. 05 How is it different from under eye filler?

Filler aims to reduce the shadow by adding volume to an under eye hollow. Mesotherapy has nothing to do with volume; it supports the moisture balance and tissue quality of the skin. The two have different goals and neither replaces the other. Which is appropriate depends on what is actually causing the under eye appearance.

No. 06 Do sleep and salt intake make a difference?

Yes, the under eye appearance is not down to the skin alone. Poor sleep, high salt intake, allergy symptoms and smoking can all make puffiness and darkness more pronounced. While those factors continue, what the treatment can contribute stays limited. That is why daily habits are reviewed together during the visit.

No. 07 When can I wear make up again?

Avoiding eye make up on the first day is advised. It is better to give the injection points a short window to close. From the next day most people return to their usual routine. Take care not to rub the area or use vigorous movements while removing make up.
